Wasa recovers Rs10m from defaulters

RAWALPINDI, Feb 6: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has recovered Rs10 million from illegal connection holders and defaulters, an official spokesperson told Dawn on Thursday.

The spokesperson said over 1,000 commercial and domestic defaulters had benefited from the discount and relief package offered by the agency. The civic agency has asked the defaulters to submit the dues without paying any fine, he added.

“So far Wasa has succeeded in collecting outstanding amount from more than 85 per cents of the defaulters.”

The official said 500 people availed the opportunity to regularize the illegal connections.

The regularization fee for domestic consumer is: Rs2,000 for houses measuring up to 10 marla and Rs2,500 for above 10 marla houses. While the commercial consumers will have to submit Rs5,000 for regularization of their connections.

After regularization both the commercial and domestic consumers will be charged accordingly, the spokesperson said.
