KARACHI, Feb 6: The forthcoming Sindh Spring Festival, being organized at the Keenjhar Lake from Feb 14-16, and other tourism promotion programmes in Sindh came under discussion at a meeting of the Pakistan Hotels Association with Sindh Chief Secretary K.B. Rind.

The main highlight of the festival will be a grand musical concert to be held on Feb 15 at which popular singers and artists will perform.

The Keenjhar Lake festivities will include taped music, a live night concert, bonfires, canoeing, motor boat rides, kite flying and food stalls.

Sindh’s handicrafts will also be on display and available for sale.

The meeting was told that similar tourism-promotion plans have been conceived for various parts of Sindh.

For this purpose, Sindh has been divided into four tourist zones — Moenjodaro-Larkana, Kirthar Park/Gorakh Hill, Thar and Thatta Tourist Zone.

Such festivals will be organized in each zone and ultimately will become the ‘Calendar of Events’ in Sindh.

The development programme for the Gorakh hill station, which was earlier visited by the PHA members with the chief secretary, K.B. Rind, also came under discussion.

Mr Rind said the government had already allocated Rs150 million for the construction of a road, and provision of electricity and water at the Gorakh hill station, and work had begun on the project.

He said he would ensure compliance and coordination by the government to support the private sector.

The secretary for culture and tourism, Hameed Akhund, told the meeting that he would study the tourism promotion programme extensively and submit a report for its implementation.—APP
