BADIN, Feb 5: A woman, Kaz Bano, was killed on Tuesday by her father-in-law on the pretext of Karo-Kari in the Esso Soomro village, Matli taluka.
According to reports, the accused, Vikio Soomro, throttled his daughter-in-law by pulling a piece of rope around her neck.
The Matli police have arrested the accused and have registered a case against him.
suicide: Malik Amjad, a student of the NED Engineering University, Karachi, on Tuesday committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol at his residence in Shaheed Fazil Rahu.
The cause of the suicide could not be ascertained.
SIT-IN: A number of religious leaders on Wednesday blocked the Kazia Wah bridge by staging a sit-in for the second consecutive day.
They were protesting against the personnel of a law enforcement agency, who reportedly damaged a portion of a mosque built along the Cantonment Road.
The mosque was built by a retired major, who had allegedly encroached upon the cantonment land.
The encroachment was removed by the district administration a few days ago with the help of a law enforcement agency, who reportedly demolished the front portion of the mosque.
The protesters threatened to continue their protest until the demolition work was stopped.
They ended their protest on the assurance that the mosque would not be demolished and the damaged portion of the mosque would be rebuilt.
DEMISE: Daulat Khan Bhurgari, 63, a retired revenue official and the brother of the Dawn correspondent in Badin, breathed his last at the Rajputana Hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday night.
He was hospitalized after having suffered a paralytic stroke over a week ago.
His body was taken away to Badin for burial. His mortal remains were later buried at the Gharibabad graveyard.
A large number of people, including relatives and journalists, attended his funeral prayers.
He is survived by the grieving widow, three sons and four daughters.
