ISLAMABAD, Feb 5: An unmanned Pakistani surveillance aircraft crashed on Wednesday near the Line of Control, a military spokesman said.

The remote piloted vehicle of the Pakistan army crashed “due to engine failure in an area close to the LoC,” the spokesman told AFP.

The plane was on a trial mission on the Pakistan side of Kashmir, he said.

“Search parties are busy locating the wreckage of the missing RPV,” the Inter-Service Public Relations said in a statement.

INDIAN CLAIM: The Indian army shot down a Pakistani plane on Wednesday in the disputed Kashmir region, an army spokesman here claimed.

Brigadier Sruti Kant told AFP the unmanned Pakistani spy plane was shot down 500 metres in the Poonch area at around 2pm (8:30 GMT).

“The debris of the spy plane fell 500 metres from the Line of Control within Indian territory,” the spokesman said.—AFP
