APHC gives strike call

NEW DELHI, Feb 5: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) today decided to go on strike on Friday (Feb 7) to protest against India’s intransigent attitude towards the shifting of Syed Ali Shah Geelani to hospital.

Speaking at a news conference held in Srinagar, the APHC Chairman, Prof Abdul Ghani Bhat and other Hurriyat leaders said the strike was also meant to protest India’s decision to award capital punishment to those allegedly involved in the attack on parliament.

The Friday’s strike call is also meant to protest against the life imprisonment of three Kashmiris implicated in the murder of H. N. Wanchoo and to express solidarity with Kashmiris who are in jails, Ghani Bhat added.

Earlier, the APHC thanked the government and people of Pakistan for celebrating Solidarity Day.

The APHC amalgam further said Solidarity Day was not a mere ritual but symbolized the Kashmir problem.—APP
