HAFIZABAD, Feb 4: Growers are worried over the non-payment of dues by the sugar mill owners.

This was told to the participants of a Kissan Board meeting held here on Tuesday.

The participants were told that despite promises made by the Punjab government, growers were not being paid for their produce. The growers were at the mercy of mill owners and commission agents.

The meeting was told that if the farmers were not paid, they would not be able to sow next crop.

They urged the government to force mill owners to pay farmers’ dues so that they could meet their expenses.

A police spokesman said on Tuesday a large number of stolen animals and illicit arms were recovered.

Two proclaimed offenders, Mohri Malah and Safdar Malah, along with a number of cattle lifters were arrested during the operation, he added.
