KARACHI: Dr Hamidullah remembered

KARACHI, Feb 4: Speakers at a seminar at the University of Karachi on Tuesday paid tribute to noted philosopher, academician and thinker Dr Mohammad Hamidullah and said that the best way to acknowledge his services and efforts for Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah was to initiate research on his leftover works and complete his mission.

They said that Dr Hamidullah was a historical personality who discovered an old script of Hadis, delivered valuable lectures in Bahawalpur and helped in the preparation of the Objective Resolution.

The seminar was organized by the Department of Islamic History on the campus.

Karachi University Vice-Chancellor Dr Zafar Saied Saify said that Dr Hamidullah had written valuable and knowledgeable books and papers which should be studied by our young generation.

“Thousands of Europeans embraced Islam owing to the restless efforts of Dr Hamidullah and are now serving Islam and the Muslims at an institute in Paris,” he said and added that Dr Hameedullah introduced Islamic ideology, civilization and norms in western society.

Dr Saify welcomed the suggestion for establishing Dr Hamidullah Chair at the Department of Islamic History and asked the department officials to prepare a detailed report on the proposal.

Dr Manzoor Ahmed said the late scholar presented Islam in a heart-touching way to the non-Muslims and helped thousands of people embrace Islam.

Dr Hamza Farooqui said Dr Hamidullah was a great scholar of the modern times who had mastery over Urdu, Arabic, English and Turkish.—PPI
