ISLAMABAD, Feb 2: All Pakistan Oil Tankers’ Workers League (APOTWL) on Sunday warned that they would suspend fuel supply to all government organizations, including the army, and Afghanistan if the recently-levied 10 per cent income tax on oil tankers in the Punjab is not withdrawn within the next 72 hours.
The organization’s secretary, Syed Altaf Hussain Mushahidi, told Dawn that oil tankers would observe a wheel-jam strike throughout the Punjab and suspend fuel supply to all government organizations.
Mr Mushahidi said the APOTWL members met on Sunday and decided to go on a strike in the next 72 hours if their demand was not fulfilled by the government. He said the workers and owners of oil tankers had observed a country-wide strike in 1997 against imposition of 10 per cent income tax that was charged along with vehicle token tax.
