RAWALPINDI, Feb 2: Electricity supply to the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), disconnected about a week ago due to non-payment of dues, has not been restored, brining official work to a standstill.

Iesco has warned that it will also disconnect power supply to the remaining installations, if the outstanding dues are not paid by Monday. On the other hand, the TMA has denied having defaulted on the dues, saying the Punjab government is supposed to make the payment.

The power disconnection has affected the working of the TMA. The officials, including the Tehsil municipal officer, either do not come to their offices, or if they come, do not perform their duties, sources said. People, who visit the TMA office with their complaints, fail to get their problems rectified as the officials present there do not entertain them, they added.

On the other hand, the Tehsil Nazim is not paying proper attention to this problem which is likely to aggravate.

When asked about the problem, the superintendent engineer, Habib Ali Bangash, repeated Iesco’s stand of not restoring electricity till the dues are cleared.

He rather warned that power to the remaining installations would also be snapped on Monday, if the dues remain unpaid.

“We have nothing to do with who has to pay the bills, the government of Punjab or the TMA. We just need the payment for the units consumed, and unless the dues are paid, electricity will not be restored,” he added.
