Kidnapped student recovered by police

GUJRANWALA, Feb 2: Police recovered the student who was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs5 million from Chenab Bela, Wazirabad, and arrested two accused here on Sunday.

Zeeshan Zaffar was on his way home when two motorcyclists had kidnapped him and demanded Rs5 million for his release.

FOUR KILLED: Four people, including an elderly woman, were killed and 24 others injured in three road accidents in and around city on Sunday.

A motorcycle-rickshaw was going to Tetley from Tung Kalan when a speeding bus hit it on the Sheikhupura Road. Rickshaw driver Mushtaq and a passenger, Shafiq, died on the spot, while Imran, Ishaq, Abdul Ghafoor, Suleman and Ashraf sustained injuries. The injured were removed to the Civil Hospital, Naushera Virkan, in critical condition.

Umer Farooq was killed and his friend, Mohammad Ali, injured when a speeding wagon hit their motorcycle on Sialkot Road.

Elderly Bashiran Bibi was killed while 18 other people were injured when a Lahore-bound bus rammed into a roadside tree near Eminabad Mor. The injured were taken to hospital.

WORK ON ROADS: The Punjab Communication and Works Department has started construction of roads in rural and urban areas with the cooperation of the Asian Development Bank with an expenditure of Rs224 million.

This was stated by a project director at a briefing here on Sunday. He said Rs150 million would be provided by the Punjab government, while the remaining amount would be paid by the Asian Development Bank.

STRANGLED: Bushra Bibi was strangled to death allegedly by her husband, Rizwan, over a domestic dispute in Wahdat Colony here on Sunday. Police are investigating.
