Cattle theft incidence on the rise

SARGODHA, Feb 2: Cattle theft incidence is on the rise in various villages situated at the borders of adjoining districts particularly Jhang and Mandi Bahauddin districts.

Police sources said on Sunday over 30 incidents of cattle lifting were reported in the district during the last 24 hours.

The cattle theft incidents occurred in the jurisdiction of Lakseen, Kotmomen, Mela, Sillanwali, Tirkhanwala, Shah Nikdar and Jhawarian police.

While motorcycle and carjacking cases were reported in the urban area. During the last week, over 24 motorcycles were either snatched or stolen. Three dacoits snatched Rs4,000 in cash and a truck from Mohammad Khan near the Kotmomen police station. Riaz of Chak 90-SB was deprived of Rs40,000 in cash and car by some highwaymen.

When contacted, Sargodha SSP Zafar Iqbal Qureshi admitted that the theft incidents had not been controlled. However, he claimed the police had arrested some gangs and recovered a huge quantity of stolen goods from their possession.

He said night patrolling had been increased to check theft and highway robberies, and to check the carjacking from main bazaars, the ticket system had been introduced.

SPRING FESTIVAL: The spring festival will be held here from Feb 17 to 22 under the supervision of the Tehsil Municipal Administration, Sargodha.

Tehsil Nazim Dr Liaqat Ali told newsmen here on Sunday that committees had been formed to make the festival a success.

KILLED: Four dacoits killed Mohammad Ali and injured Ghulam Abbas on resistance here on Sunday.

The condition of the injured was stated to be critical in the DHQ Hospital.

The Mela police have registered a case.

CREDIT SCHEME: The Macro Credit Scheme titled Azmat will benefit over 50,000 widows and retired army personnel.

This was stated by Maj-Gen Irshadullah Tarar (retired) while speaking at the inaugural session of the scheme held under the auspices of the Armed Services Board here on Saturday.

He also distributed cheques worth Rs1 million among the deserving people.
