HYDERABAD, Feb 1: The EDO, community development, has said the district government is trying to revive abandoned development schemes.

Visiting abandoned water supply and health schemes in the Buro Khan Leghari village, Hyderabad taluka, on Friday, EDO Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi said these schemes would be revived by the Citizen Community Board.

Expressing his concern over the deteriorated condition of water supply and health schemes, he said there were many villages in the district where such schemes were available but remained non-functional due to lack of community participation and apathy of organizations concerned.

He said the district government was considering to conduct a survey of the district to identify abandoned schemes and to prepare a strategy to get these schemes functional.

The EDO said the district government had also decided to establish and encourage citizen community boards in cities and village development boards in rural areas to keep development schemes functional.

He appealed to community leaders and NGOs to help the government in restoration of development schemes, specially in rural areas where people had been deprived of basic facilities.

On this occasion, Sindh Health and Education Development Society president Adam Khan Laghari apprised the EDO of problems of people and offered financial and organizational support to get development schemes functional.

admissions: The University of Sindh on Saturday announced the schedule for admissions to M.Ed. (morning and evening programmes) under self-finance schemes in the Faculty of Education, Elsa Kazi campus, Hyderabad for 2003.

The admission forms would be available from the Habib Bank, old campus, Hyderabad and Jamshoro branches on payment of Rs150.

The last date for payment of admission fee and submission of admission forms has been fixed as March 8.
