ISLAMABAD, Jan 31: President Pervez Musharraf on Friday appointed Lt-Gen Abdul Qadir (retired) new Governor of Balochistan in place of Justice Amirul Mulk Mengal (retired).
Gen Qadir, who sought early retirement from the army, had been the Corps Commander of Balochistan.
Justice Mengal, who was appointed governor after the military takeover in 1999, paid a farewell call on President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Friday.
Out of four provinces, three have retired army generals as governors, and two of them had sought early retirement to takeover the new post.
Under the Legal Framework Order, the president has the powers to appoint governor of his choice, and he is only required to consult the prime minister.
FAREWELL CALL: The outgoing Balochistan governor, Justice Amirul Mulk Mengal (retired), paid a farewell call on President Gen Pervez Musharraf here on Friday.
President Musharraf paid rich tribute to the services rendered by the governor for the development of Balochistan. He said that Justice Mengal had untiringly strived for the socio-economic uplift of the people and his initiation of development and welfare projects in far-flung areas of the province would be remembered in the days to come.
The outgoing governor thanked the president for his sentiments and said that it had been a privilege for him to have served the people of Balochistan. He thanked the president for his keen interest in the rapid development of Balochistan in order to bring it at par with other areas of the country.
