LAHORE, Jan 31: The Lahore district and sessions judge on Friday directed the Lahore SSP to take measures for the separation of juvenile trials from those of adults.
The judge observed that police was not following the provisions of Juvenile Ordinance, 2000, as the cases against juveniles were not being submitted separately from those filed against adults.
He directed that all the cases should be submitted within the prescribed period of 14 days.
PENALTY: An additional sessions judge on Friday handed down death penalty to a killer and sentenced his brother to 15 years in jail.
Convict Arif was sentenced to death and five years’ rigorous imprisonment for breaking into the house of complainant Jamila and killing her husband Wazir Ali. He would also pay Arsh (compensation) of Rs135,000 to the complainant for deprived her of a kidney.
His brother and co-accused Asif was awarded 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for opening indiscriminate fire and further five years’ imprisonment for forcing entry into the house.
According to the prosecution, the convicts had suspected their father of maintaining illicit relations with Jamila, a resident of Hanjarwal. On June 1, 1999, they forced their entry into Jamila’s house and opened fire on her and her husband. Her husband died on the spot while she lost one of her kidneys due to a bullet injury.
