FAISALABAD, Jan 31: The members of the district council on second day of the session on Friday were told that no funds were provided for the promotion of sports in the district during the financial year 2001-02 and 2002-03.
During the session held here at the Jinnah hall, the district sports officer replying to a question from the chairman of Monitoring Committee for Sports, told the house that no funds were allocated for the sports by the district government.
He also refuted the claim of some members that funds for sports were being misappropriated by the officials concerned with the connivance of functionaries of educational institutions.
However, some members of the district council refused to accept his claim.
The presiding officer told them that if wrong information was provided to the house, action would be taken against the official concerned.
Several members said police had failed to control crime but no action was being taken against the officials concerned.
A member told the house that in an incident of dacoity in Chak 67-JB, a dacoit was killed in an exchange of fire, while his accomplices fled from the scene.
The area police, instead of registering case against the outlaws, started victimizing the family and implicating them in false case of providing shelter to the outlaws.
The presiding officer assured the house that the incident would be brought into the notice of DPO and he would be asked to provide protection to the family.
He said the additional SP would also be asked to submit his report within a week after conducting an enquiry into the matter.
