Govt may ban filament yarn import

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29: The government is likely to ban import of filament yarn under the Duty and Tax Remission for Export (DTRE) scheme.

The decision is expected to be taken in the next meeting of Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, an informed source in the commerce ministry told Dawn on Wednesday.

The proposal was moved on the recommendation of the manufacturers of filament yarn asking for placing the commodity under the negative list of DTRE.

The government has already placed polyester staple fibre (PSF) and PTA under the negative list.

The official was of the opinion that inclusion of filament yarn in the negative list would further discourage exporters to register themselves under DTRE regime.
