KARACHI, Jan 25: The trial of the Sheraton Hotel bomb explosion case, in which 11 French naval personnel lost their lives, is set to begin in an anti-terrorism court on Feb 1.

A chargesheet against two accused was submitted on Saturday before the Sindh High Court administrative judge for anti- terrorism courts.

One of the accused, Rizwan Bashir, was produced before Justice Shabbir Ahmed, with the challan amid tight security in and around the high court. Asif Zaheer, who was arrested in another case and who confessed to be among the perpetrators of the crime, was not brought to the court. Co- accused Rizwan Bashir was picked up on his pointation.

Justice Shabbir Ahmed assigned the case to Anti- Terrorism Court No 2. The trial was ordered to commence on Feb 1.

STATUS OF EURO: The Sindh High Court was moved on Saturday to question the validity of Euro as legal tender.

Advocate Sohail Hameed maintained in his writ petition that under the international law, only sovereign states have the right and power to float currencies.

Every currency has the backing of sovereign guarantee, which could only be extended by a sovereign state.

The European Union, which has launched the Euro, is not a sovereign state but a group of sovereign states.

The union was at best a common market and the Euro could not be regarded as more than a mutual arrangement between the member countries to facilitate their financial transactions. It should not be acceptable in Pakistan as a legal tender.
