KARACHI: SHCBA concerned about fresh oath move

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 25: The Sindh High Court Bar Association has expressed concern over reports that the government was contemplating to administer fresh oath to some selected judges of the superior courts and has cautioned against doing so.

In a statment, Muneer A. Malik, president, and Yawar Faruqi, general secretary of the SHCBA, feared that while doing so the government might not invite certain incumbents to take a fresh oath.

Deploring such a move, they called upon the government to desist from administering oath on a selective basis, as such a move, if implemented, would undermine the perception of the judiciary’s independence.

“No judge of a superior court can be removed from office except upon a reference to the Supreme Judicial Council, as has been affirmed by the Supreme Court in Zafar Ali Shah case.
