KARACHI, Jan 25: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said he will request the House Building Finance Commission (HBFC) to abolish interest on the loans being given to employees of the City District Government Karachi.
Speaking at a lucky draw ceremony for grant of loans to employees of the city government on Friday, he stressed the need for establishing an Islamic society and added that the city government would take initiative in this regard.
He said that a summary would be sent to the government soon for exemption of interest on loans given to the officials of grade-16 and above.
Naimatullah Khan said that the city government was faced with numerous problems while it has limited resources. He, however, vowed to provide better facilities for the city government’s employees.
He said that the city government had set aside Rs15 million for house building loans, which would be released to employees in two phases. In the first phase, he added, Rs73,52,765 would be distributed among 50 employees, for which about 1,889 applications have been received.
For loan on vehicles, RS1.225 million would be given to 83 employees through a draw from 107 applications received, while the second draw would be held in May, so that other employees could also benefit from the facility.
Naib City Nazim Tariq Hasan Khan said that the continuous efforts made by the City Nazim, workers and officials after the installation of the city government had again made Karachi the city of lights.—PPI/APP
