KARACHI, Jan 23: Nineteen vehicles — seven cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Thursday, police said. Three cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

Six motorcycles were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Thursday to have recovered 11 vehicles.

INJURED: Bandits shot and wounded a young man when he put up resistance to them as they tried to hijack his motorcycle in Federal B Area.

Police said armed men intercepted a young motorcyclist, Khurram, aged 28, and asked him to hand over the motorcycle to them.

When he tried to put up resistance to the bandits, they pumped three bullets into his body and got away with the motorcycle.

Khurram was admitted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where his condition was stated to be serious.

Two watchmen were injured when people riding in a car opened fire at a club in Joharabad late Wednesday night.

Police said armed men opened fire at Arshi rummy club situated behind Arshi Shopping Centre. Two watchmen, Ali Hasan and Saifullah, were injured in the firing.

They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Later in the night, during snap check of vehicles in Preedy police limits police arrested two suspects who were riding in the car (ADQ-427) used in the Joharabad firing.

The snap check was initiated following a massage on police control about the vehicle’s registration number used in the firing, the DSP Preedy said.

The two occupants of the car were arrested. Initially they have been identified as Javed Bashir and Shah Elahi.

Police also recovered a pistol and three magazines from the vehicle.

During interrogation, Javed Bashir was identified as Javed Mohajir, who is wanted in several criminal cases and is a rival of Shoaib Khan.
