KARACHI: US envoy meets governor and CM


KARACHI, Jan 22: The US ambassador in Pakistan, Nancy Powell, accompanied by Consul General John Bauman, met the Sindh governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, in the Governor’s House here on Wednesday.

During an hour-long meeting various issues of bilateral importance, opportunities for investment, law and order situation, and the registration of Pakistanis in the US came under discussion.

The governor told Ms Powell that steps were being taken to ensure protection to life and property of the people in the province. He said foreigners on Pakistan soil were our guests and due attention was being paid to their protection and their happy stay here.

Dr Ibad said a headway was being made in the investment opportunities and economic activities owing to the improving law and order situation. He said he hoped that US entrepreneurs and businessmen would benefit from the joint-venture and investment opportunities in Pakistan.

Speaking about the registration of the Pakistanis in the US, the governor stressed the need for doing away with the discriminatory treatment of the Pakistanis in the United States.

He told the ambassador that Pakistan would continue to play its positive role in the international efforts for the elimination of terrorism.

The US ambassador showed special interest in investment opportunities and also appreciated the steps taken for the improvement in law and order.

Sindh CM: US ambassador Nancy Powell also met Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammed Mahar in the Chief Minister’s House here and had an exchange of views on matters of mutual importance.—APP
