BD rejects Indian proposal

DHAKA, Jan 21: Bangladesh has virtually rejected the recent Indian proposal that Nepal could host all summits of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc), asserting that the proposal is contradictory to the Saarc charter.

“The Saarc has a charter which calls for rotating summit venues among its member states. Bangladesh wants to see that the Saarc charter is upheld in all its activities,” Foreign Minister Morshed Khan said while talking to reporters on Monday. “Any decision on summit venue has to be taken collectively.”

India put forward an idea last week that Nepal could host all the Saarc summits.
