ISLAMABAD, Jan 21: The Punjab University (PU) will establish its information centre in the capital in near future to provide better facilities to the students as well as their parents.
This was disclosed by the varsity vice-chancellor, Lt-Gen Arshad Mehmood (retired), while speaking at the first convocation ceremony of Islamabad Model College for Girls (IMCG), F-6/2, on Tuesday.
The VC, who was the chief guest on the ceremony, said the university was hiring a building in the capital to set up the information centre. He said the varsity administration realized the problems of students and aspiring candidates who wanted to appear in different examinations.
Talking about the IMCG, F-6/2, he said the college had a remarkable and unique progressive history. He added that it started functioning as a middle school and then raised its status upto a degree college level in very short span of time.
The VC advised the students to gain maximum knowledge from their teachers and make most of the facilities available in the college.
He urged the outgoing graduates to apply their knowledge to the practical life and take active participation in national development.
In her welcome speech, the college principal said the academic results of her college had throughout been almost 100 per cent. She said the college had the honour of receiving Best Institution Medal Award at SSC Level from Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Islamabad, for four consecutive years since 1996.
The principal said, on the basis of producing best results, a National Award for the year 1997-98 was awarded to the institution by Pakistan Education Forum.
Institute of Advanced Technologies, Islamabad, has also awarded a shield to the institution for showing best results at the SSC and HSSC level in 2002. Recently, the Federal Directorate of Education has awarded a shield to the college for its overall best results at middle-level examination held in 2002, she said.
The college, she said, showed a remarkable progress not only in academic field, but also got recognition in co-curricular activities and sports competitions with other similar institutions.
So far, from matriculation to bachelor-degree level, the IMCG results have been exemplary. This year too, the matriculation result of the institution was excellent among all federal government and model institutions, she added.
“Our two students, Ammara Pervaiz and Hafsa Zia, secured 779 and 778 marks and got 1st and 2nd positions, respectively, in the whole of Islamabad, whereas their position in the board remained 7th and 11th, respectively,” she said.
The principal said, in general group, Arghwan Masood got 7th position in the board. Out of 162 students, 44 got A+, 59, A, and 54 got B-grades. Whereas only six got C-grades.
The result of FA/FSc remained 100 per cent in humanities, 100 per cent in science general, and 91 per cent in pre-medical. The overall result remained 98.20 per cent.
The principal said Fatima Khalid, who secured 909 marks, got 1st position in the college as well as in all model colleges. Sara Mubarak with 883 marks got 7th position in the board, whereas Ayesha Usman Abbasi secured 18th position with 775 marks.
Fatima Khalid, who secured 909 marks and stood first in the college, also secured 986 marks in medical college entry test, securing 8th position out of 10,000 participants, thereby getting the honour of getting admission to any medical college of her choice.
