KARACHI: Poor sanitary condition

KARACHI, Jan 20: The erratic water supply and poor sanitary conditions in Lyari Town and Keamari have exposed residents of the two thickly populated and oldest localities of the city to severe health conditions.

Since the outdated sewerage system has neither been repaired nor any attempt made for its replacement despite demands on part of the residents, almost the entire road network and lanes appear to be inundated with filthy water, leading to a surge in various diseases.

The residents said that seepage of sewage into water supply lines had aggravated the already severe water shortage in the area.

Children have emerged to be the worst sufferers as consumption of contaminated water has led to high incidence of gastroenteritis in the area.—APP
