KARACHI, Jan 18: Order Of The Day, a blue roan horse owned and trained by Yaqoob Butt, starts off as our day’s best, when the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting gets under way on Sunday at the Karachi Racecourse.
Contesting in the sixth event where a big field of 18 runners are vying for the spoils going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, Order Of The Day will be challenged throughout the race by the dark bay colt Recent Command, an impressive winner last week and the thoroughbred chestnut filly High Standard, from trainer Cajetan Colaco’s yard.
All in all, seven events have been chalked up on the racing programme. The first six will be negotiated over five furlongs and the last race race of the afternoon will be run over six furlongs.
The first race begins at 12-30 p.m.
Another runner that should not lose on Sunday is owner-trainer A. Hannan’s bay horse Mark, participating in the fourth race with 13 other runners.
Although Mark finished a disappointing fourth last week behind Defence Academy, Slim Fit and Your Excellency, the bay horse with a good lad astride could pass the winning post ahead of the rest of the field, with the speedy Raysham and Mahsagar in close pursuit.
In the opener, the bay mare Gharnata, should relish the distance and pass the winning post ahead of Royal Promise and Century.
In the next race, Present Will finishing third in his last three starts is on song to sprint home to victory, with Rich Valiant, throttled by his rider M. Akram throughout the race only last week, and the much talked about Ford Mustang, also making their presence felt.
The third race of the afternoon seems reserved for the eight-year- old bay horse Clever Cat, with Even Top and Silent Fire grabbing the two place spots up for grabs.
Royal Lancer, a four-year-old bay colt, beaten into third place in his last run by Satellitte Star and Snake Eyed, will be going all out to avenge that defeat and finish ahead of Flying Bird and the unlucky Blue’s Night.
The concluding event of the afternoon should be picked up by M.R. Hussain’s thoroughbred chestnut filly Jugni, making it two winners in a row with Tariq Mehmood astride. The top weight Lover’s Way and the lion hearted Donatello, should battle it out for the second spot.
