LAHORE, Jan 16: Dryfruit has become a luxury for the common run of the people due to high prices.
Chilghoza is being sold for Rs580 per kg and pistachio for Rs360 per kg. Quality almonds are not available below Rs200 per kg. Walnuts are also being sold for more than Rs150 per kg. Almond and walnut kernals cost 100 percent more.
Quality peanuts are available for Rs52 per kg and dried grapes Rs150 per kg. Dried Angeer and coconut is also being sold for more than Rs100 per kg. Rewaries consisting mainly of sugar costing Rs20 per kg are being sold for Rs80 per kg.
Dryfruit merchants charge their customers at will because of the limited number of their shops in the provincial metropolis. But their is no rush of customers at their shops despite freezing cold weather because of exorbitant prices of the merchandize being demanded by them.
