KARACHI: Bandit shot dead in ‘encounter’

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 13: A suspected bandit was killed and a policeman was injured in, what police claimed, an encounter with bandits on University Road in the police limits of Sachal late Sunday night.

Two armed men robbed an estate agent, Waseem, of cash and his wristwatch in Rizwan Society. Waseem informed police on “15.”

A little later a patrolling party of Sachal police station tried to intercept two men riding a motorcycle near Jauhar Complex on University Road. The motorcyclists opened fire on police injuring a constable, Zubair Baloch.

Police returned the fire killing one of the suspected bandits, identified as Mannan Nizamani. The other suspect, Zahid, was arrested.

Suicide: A teenager committed suicide at his house in Jamshed Quarters late Sunday night.

Police said 16-year-old Hafeez consumed poison. Formerly he worked as a bus conductor and at present was out of work.

Some time late Sunday night he took poison at his Muslimabad house. He was rushed to Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
