HYDERABAD, Jan 13: The members of the union council of Qasimabad No3, and other members of the action committee on Monday continued their hunger strike in Qasimabad for the second consecutive day.
They are protesting to press the concerned authorities to resolve the problems faced by the people of Qasimabad taluka.
The hunger strike would last for at least 10 days, according to the leaders of the protestors.
The Nazim of the union council, Abdul Khaliq Chandio, said that the district government system had been in place for over 16 months but it had done nothing to resolve any problem of Qasimabad.
Criticizing the conditions of the local roads, he said that the network of roads as well as the sewerage system had been destroyed.
He accused the contractors of laying 8-inch to 10-inch drainage pipes instead of the 24-inch lines in connivance with the officials of the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA).
Criticizing the authorities for not regualarizing the Katchi Abadis, he said that the people were harassed by excessive power detection bills.
He said that the people of the area had been deprived of proper medical facilities because of the government’s refusal to manage the affairs of the taluka hospital in Qasimabad.
Demanding urgent redressal of the problems faced by the people in the Qasimabad taluka, he urged the authorities to regularize the Katchi Abadis, besides calling for allocation of full budget for the taluka hospital and an amount of Rs100 million for undertaking new schemes in Qasimabad.
