HYDERABAD, Jan 12: People from union council No-3, Qasimabad, here on Sunday staged a rally and observed a token hunger strike to press the district administration for solving civic problems of the taluka.

The protestors, led by the Nazim of the union council, Abdul Khaliq Chandio, and leaders of the action committee, called upon the authorities to solve problems related with sewerage, drainage and roads in the Qasimabad taluka.

The rally, which began from the Bhitai Nagar Chowk, ended at the main Naseem Nagar Chowk, where the protesters set up the hunger strike camp.

The protesters demanded of the government to allocate Rs100 million for the Qasimabad taluka, which, they added, should be utilized for the improvement of local sewerage and drainage system.

They also stressed the need for repair and reconstruction of roads, besides calling for regularizing the Katcha Abadi and old villages in the taluka.

They also criticized the authorities for not sanctioning the budget of the Qasimabad Hospital and called for allocation of budget for the taluka.

Leaders of several nationalist and political parties also visited the hunger strike camp to express their solidarity with the hunger strikers.

They included the Awami Tehrik’s Ibrar Kazi, Vishnu Mal and Dr Nazeer Memon; Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party’s Vishnu Mal and Mahboob Abro; Akash Mallah of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, and Tufail Ahmed of the Doctors Forum.
