No-trust move against Sillanwali Nazim

SARGODHA, Jan 11: As many as 14 members of the Tehsil Council, Sillanwali, have tabled a no-confidence motion against Tehsil Nazim Rana Munawar Ghaus.

The opposition members in the 23-man house, led by Rai Khuda Baksh Bhatti, appeared in the council session on Saturday. When they attempted to submit a no-confidence motion signed by 14 members, including three women, Naib Nazim Allah Ditta Noon adjourned the session and left the meeting along with treasury.

Gulzar Aziz, a member reported to be on the panel of members entitled to preside the meeting of the tehsil council in the absence of the Naib Nazim, presided over the special session in which the no-confidence motion was tabled by Rai Khuda Baksh Bhatti.

After firy speeches, the house was adjourned for 13th instant for voting.

Meanwhile, Naib Nazim Allah Ditta Noon described the meeting as illegal and said that in his absence the meeting could not be presided over by any member on panel.

He said even if the meeting was considered as valid, such a motion could not be tabled till June 30 in view of an ordinance issued by the government.

Opposition leader Rai Khuda Baksh Bhatti said the Tehsil Nazim had lost confidence of the house.

A police contingent remained alert on the premises of the Tehsil Council to avoid any clash between the two groups.

On Friday, former MPA Chaudhry Farrukh Javed Ghumman reportedly hijacked 14 Naib Nazimeen of Sillanwali tehsil and shifted them to an unknown place to table a no-confidence motion against the Nazim.

Chaudhry Ghumman is a brother-in-law of MNA Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema and uncle of provincial Irrigation Minister Chaudhry Aamer Sultan Cheema who are close relatives of the Punjab Chief Minister. Tehsil council members are united due to the alleged corrupt practices of the tehsil Nazim. The cold war for the removal of tehsil Nazim has been going on for the last couple of months, but as of now he has succeeded in foiling all the attempts of his opponents.

Meanwhile, Sargodha UC Nazimeen also seem active against their respective Naib Nazimeen and are holding joint meetings to bring no-confidence motions against them.

The Nazimeen have urged the tehsil and district Nazimeen to appoint a 10-member supervisory council for maintaining a check and balance over the working of the tehsil council.

Sources said the hidden forces were active in removing all Naib Nazimeen who had gathered around Tehsil Nazim Dr Liaquat Ali Khan to make him helpless before the respective groups who wanted to capture the entire functioning of the tehsil council.

According to official sources, a no-confidence move cannot be tabled against the district Nazimeen due to the enforcement of an ordinance, giving them immunity till June 30. However, a no-confidence motion can be tabled against tehsil and UC heads.

In Bhalwal tehsil, she along with her accomplices looted Rs200,000 in cash, ornaments and valuables from the house of Muhammad Afzal. She reportedly shot at and injured Imam Din, the cousin of Afzal, for putting up resistance.

The gang also snatched a motorcycle near Bhalwal. She was wanted by police for over a dozen incidents of heinous crimes.
