KARACHI: Indigenous check of aircraft

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 9: PIA rolled out its Boeing 747-300 aircraft after accomplishing first-ever check “D,” which is a major overhaul check, at its own engineering facilities at Isphani Hangar.

The “D” check is a major scheduled maintenance check, undertaken every five years, involving major structural modifications. This was previously done in Hong Kong.

In 2001, PIA engineering undertook the first-ever “C” checks, undertaken every two years, of the Boeing aircraft.

Fo the “D” check the aircraft was docked in mid-November 2002 and the check was completed in five weeks, one week ahead of the schedule.

This was one of the six jumbo jet aircraft, which were initially leased, and recently bought by PIA from Cathay Pacific airlines.
