KARACHI, Jan 9: The city district government’s advisory committee has decided to equally distribute Rs90 million among all the 18 town administrations of the city for expediting the ongoing development works in their respective jurisdictions.

Presiding over the committee’s meeting, the city Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, said the formula for providing town administrations’ share from conservancy tax had not yet been decided, but every town administration be immediately given Rs5m under the head, and the amount be adjusted upon finalization of the formula.

A host of issues pertaining to temporary sacrificial animals markets and lifting of offals on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, pipelines’ leakages and devolution of the city government’s anti-encroachment department at town administration level, were also discussed in detail at the meeting held late Wednesday night.

It was attended, among others, by the City Naib Nazim, Tariq Hasan, Nazimeen of town administrations, district coordination officer Shafiqur Rahman Paracha, executive district officer (finance) Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, EDO (revenue) Javaid Hanif, EDO (works and services) Brig Zaheer Quadri (retd), EDO (health) Ali Nawaz Shaikh and other senior officers of the city government.

SACRIFICIAL ANIMALS: About the sacrificial animals markets, the meeting decided that though there would be a ban on setting up sacrificial animals markets within the limits of the city, temporary animal markets would be allowed on Super Highway, National Highway, RCD Highway, Manghopir Road and in Malir.

Assigning the task of making arrangements for sacrificial animals markets at the above places to town administrations, the meeting allowed the towns concerned to collect fees from such markets.

Discussing matters concerning the lifting of offals and general cleanliness on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the meeting hoped that the city’s town administrations would ensure speedy disposal of offals and take effective measures for general cleanliness.

LEAKING PIPELINES: Expressing concern over wastage of water through leaking pipelines in different parts of the city, the meeting instructed officials of the water and sewerage department to plug the leakages on a priority basis.

Referring to devolution of the city government’s anti-encroachment department to town administrations’ level, it decided to transfer the majority of officials of the department to the 18 town administrations.

The city government would, however, retain a section of the anti- encroachment department to undertake major and emergency anti-encroachment operations.

It also decided that disbursement of salary to the officials of the anti- encroachment department would now be the responsibility of town administrations concerned and the DCO would soon issue a notification in this regard.

Expressing concern over the reported cases of hepatitis in Gadap and Bin Qasim towns, the meeting asked the DEO (health) to immediately send a team of doctors to these localities to know the cause of the outbreak of the disease and submit a comprehensive report to the city government.
