SIALKOT, Jan 8: An Export Processing Zone is being established at Gujranwala costing Rs99.40 million, official sources told APP on Wednesday.

Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) and Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) are jointly developing this Export Processing Zone over 111 acres of land on GT road about 3 km off Gujranwala.

This Export Processing Zone will have about 162 plots of three different categories of which 124 plots of four kanals, 24 of two kanals and 14 plots of ten marlas.

Sources further said the process of allotment of plots in GEPZ is in full swing and so far 70 plots have been allotted to the owners in the Zone. In order to speed up the allotment process, Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry has adopted a radical approach for expediting the allotment process.

In Gujranwala, the main industries are ceramic, auto gas kits, cutlery, melamine utensils, electrical products, washing machines, room air coolers, silk and velvet products and textile products, sanitary ware and plastic products, etc. The facilities like roads, water supply, electricity, waste water and collection and disposal, industrial waste drains and utility buildings would be provided in Gujranwala Export Processing Zone.

The PSIC will also provide and develop plots for the establishment of banks, post office, telephone exchange, mosque and dispensary in the zone.

Apart from this, Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry GCCI is also making hectic efforts for making the Gujranwala Export Processing zone a successful project.

The government has taken the step for further accelerating the business activities in Gujranwala. The functioning of Export Processing Zone in Gujranwala would open a new era of prosperity and development. In addition to this, Zone will also help in attracting the foreign investment which will ultimately pave the way for transfer of industrial technology and enlarge the scope of employment in the area.—APP
