Rangers go down fighting

LAHORE, Jan 7: Four goals by Mir Shoaib Ahmad, guided  Diamond Paints to 7-4 1/2 victory over Rangers in  the Rana Cup polo on Tuesday.

Paints took the lead at the end of the second chukker with a goal in the first, and three more in the second with Shoaib and Shahzad Aziz scoring twice.

With a 2 1/2 goal handicap, Rangers scored their first in the second chukker through Nasir Piracha to make it 4-3 1/2.

Shoaib struck his third goal while Adnan Lone slammed the other to make it 6-3 1/2 for the winners in the third chukker.

The losers struck back at the start of fourth chukker when Saami Itrat struck. But Shoaib again extended the lead by scoring his fourth goal.

Polo Lounge beat Guard Rice 4 1/2-2 in another match.

Irfan Ali Hyder, put Guard Rice ahead by scoring a goal in the first chukker.

For the winners, Feroze Gulzar slammed in two goals ably supported by another goal from Azam Hayat Noon, to take the lead to 3 1/2-1 by the end of the second chukker.

Taimur Malik, scored a goal for Guard Rice in the third chukker. But Azam scored his second goal for Polo Lounge in the fourth to complete the tally.

Meanwhile, Millat Tractors beat Sunday TV 7 1/2-7, by virtue of their 1 1/2 goal handicap in the opening match of the 6-12 Goals Cup. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana struck three goals. Mujahid Omar added two goals and Omar Minhas a goal fot Millat.

For the losers, Shah Shamyl Alam scored three goals. Faaiz Rahim Khan netted two goals while Shah Qublai Alam and Malik contributed a goal, apiece.
