ICCI for facilities at dry port

ISLAMABAD, Jan 7: Modern facilities should be provided at the Margalla Dry Port considering the future needs of the business community.

This was stated by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) president, Mian Akram Farid, during a meeting with Ishfaq Khattak, divisional superintendent, Pakistan Railways (PR), Rawalpindi.

According to a press release, a delegation of businessmen led by Mian Farid met the officials of the PR and discussed various modalities and design of the dry port.

The delegation was briefed about the plan that the dry port would be completed at a cost of Rs29 million, on 13 acre.

The ICCI president stressed on close interaction between the PR and the private sector for the swift transportation and clearance at the Margalla Dry Port and gave some suggestions which were appreciated.

The delegation was informed that the dry port would provide services for the local transportation and custom clearance with its normal transportation route. The delegation said the establishment of the dry port should focus on the provision of better services to the Islamabad Industrial area.

A site visit was also planned on the occasion where different issues would be discussed.

Mr Khattak told the delegation that the PR would accept suggestions and recommendations for the improvement of design and facilities at the Margalla Dry Port.

He appreciated the interest of the ICCI for its better design and facilities.
