LARKANA, Jan 7: The Sindh Balochistan Rice Millers and Traders Association (SBRMTA) has said the deteriorating law and order situation has crippled life in upper Sindh.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, the SBRMTA patron-in-chief, Gada Hussain Mahesar, the president of the association’s Kandhkot chapter, Nanak Ram, and others said the poor state of law an order had also badly affected business, particularly that of rice trade.

They said around 55 rice mills in Kandhkot, Kashmor, Thul and Jacobabad had closed their business, which would affect many people, associated with the rice trade.

They said a sense of insecurity was developing in the rice mill owners after the firing of rockets on the Golden Rice Mills, and kidnapping of the owner of the Five Star Rice Mills.

The office-bearers of the SBRMTA stressed the need for taking urgent measures to curb the criminal activities and restore peaceful atmosphere.

They said the DCOs and the Nazimeen seemed to be ineffective and alleged the agencies were behind the poor law and order in the upper Sindh.

They said the Sindh government had failed to control the situation.

They said the SBRMTA, which represented 750 rice mills, would give a strike call for an indefinite period if the prime minister and the Sindh chief minister failed to restore the law and order in the province.

PROTEST: Around 100 people took out a procession in Dokri on Tuesday to press for the release of Sardar Ghulam Akbar Junejo, who was arrested in the murder case of an FIA inspector.

Led by the general secretary, Pakistan People’s Party, Dokri taluka, Hafiz Rajab Solangi, and a union council Nazim, Ubedullah Junejo, the protesters marched on main roads of the town and later observed a token hunger strike.

Speaking on the occasion, the president, PPP, Larkana taluka, Mazhar Junejo, termed the arrest of Sardar Junejo a case of political victimization.

Meanwhile, the Market police here on Tuesday obtained a one-day remand of Akbar Junejo for further investigation.

Also, the Dokri police registered a case against 14 persons on the charges of damaging public property during a rally.

The case was registered on the complaint of Qadir Bakhsh Magsi. Those nominated in the case included Ayaz, Nazir Junejo, both the sons of the chieftain of the Junejo tribe, Ghulam Mustafa, Fayyaz Ali, Nisar Ahmad, Suleman, Qaimuddin and Anwar.
