KARACHI, Jan 7: The Nazim of Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, has set up special committees to monitor work on development in education sector at towns level. Besides ensuring completion of schemes, the committees will identify deficiencies if found.

The decision to constitute the committees was taken at a meeting chaired by the Nazim.

During the meeting, the DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, asked the officials of Education department to expedite the work on development schemes meant for schools.

The meeting also reviewed the work on various schemes under Annual Development Programme (Education Sector Reform Programme).

The EDOs and officials of Works & Services and Education, the special representative of City Nazim, Naseem Siddiqui and chairperson of Education Committee, Rehana Afroz also attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed by the concerned officials that 55 per cent of Rs133 million, the amount allocated for Educational Works was received under the ESR and utilized during the last six months. They said that the remaining funds would be released for the next year’s schemes. They further told the meeting that under the Annual Development Programme, 40 per cent of Rs105 million budget had been utilized.

Under the ESR programme, work in 2,594 out of 4,226 units had been completed whereas the remaining amount would be used for the procurement of technical and scientific equipment.

Some of the elected representatives at the meeting identified deficiencies in the development work carried out in their respective areas. The City Nazim held out the assurance that the newly-formed committees would monitor standards and quality of works.—APP
