KARACHI, Jan 5: Reckless driving claimed five lives in the city on Sunday.
A four-year-boy died and his father was injured when a speeding water tanker knocked them down in SITE area.
Naseem Gul and his son Waseem Akhtar were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Waseem died. His father was admitted to the hospital.
Police said the tanker (JT-410) drive had been arrested and the vehicle impounded.
In the same area, a young cyclist died when a speeding minibus knocked him down.
Police said Mohammed Hashim, aged 32, a labourer, was riding a bicycle when a speeding minibus of route D-11 hit him. He was seriously injured. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The bus driver escaped abandoning the bus.
An eight-year-old boy, Anwar alias Annu, was run over by an unknown water tanker in Orangi Town.
Police said Anwar, resident of sector G-13, was knocked down by a speeding water tanker. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
An unidentified boy fell victim to reckless driving in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Sunday night.
Police said an unidentified seven-year-old boy was knocked down by an unknown vehicle. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
An unidentified man was injured in a hit-and-run accident in Liaquatabad late Saturday night. He was admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died on Sunday morning.
ROBBERIES: Four robberies were committed in the city on Sunday, police said.
Bandits shot and wounded a young man in Arambagh.
Police said Mohammed Zubair, aged 25, was using his mobile phone while sitting on his motorcycle when unidentified armed men asked him to hand over his mobile phone to them at gunpoint. When he offered resistance to the bandits, they opened fire on him and escaped with his mobile phone.
The injured man was admitted to Civil Hospital.
Bandits robbed another man of his cell phone in Nazimabad.
Police said Zeeshan, aged 30, was deprived of his hand phone by two armed men at gunpoint near Aga Juice House in Nazimabad No 1.
Armed men entered the house of Ali Bakhsh in New Karachi, held the family hostage at gunpoint and got away with cash and other valuables.
Four bandits barged into the house of Allah Din, held the occupants of the house hostage at gunpoint and looted valuables.
