KARACHI, Jan 5: A hectic activity has been witnessed in the building industry with the regularization of buildings at an accelerated pace, said Chief Controller of Buildings, Brig A.S. Nasir (retired).

Talking to APP, he said that the almost collapsed building industry was moving ahead and the KBCA had taken measures to maintain the pace with which the buildings were being regularized.

He pointed out that the KBCA was daily receiving 2-3 cases for approval of building loans from Landhi and Korangi industrial areas.

He said that he had given a proposal regarding micro-banking loans and micro-entrepreneur industrialization. He said he had conceived the idea because the yardstick for industrial valuation of plots was the same whether it was a 1,000 or a 100 square-yard plot.

Brig Nasir said he had bifurcated this system and a new proposal had been forwarded to the city government whereby the KBCA would charge 40 per cent less on plots up to 240 square yards, so that low and middle income group people might not have to bear the extra burden.

This, he added, would help the people who wanted to become minor entrepreneurs or cottage industry owners. He said their plans for units set up on plots up to 240 square yards would be approved at concessional rates.
