Top stars to fight for Sindh Amateur Open

KARACHI, Jan 1: All the top golfers of the Sindh will compete in the the third edition of Shell-Sindh Amateur Golf Championship starting from tomorrow at Karachi Golf Club (KGC), it was announced here Wednesday.

Played over 54 holes the three-day championship has attracted around 60 players with a handicap limit of 14, disclosed Asad I. Khan, secretary, Sindh Golf Association at a news conference at KGC.

Among those who confirmed participation are Muhammad Ali Hai, Ali Haji and Rahim Khawaja visiting home from the USA. Others promient players to vie for top honours are Murtaza Qasim, Tariq Alam, Waseem Rana, Omair Javed and Karar Hussain.

Last year the event was played at the DHA Country and Golf Club. The first was played at the Arabian Sea Country Club.

Besides the main Sindh Open, Seniors, Junior, Ladies and Veterans events will also be the part of three-day golf extravaganza.

The two-day seniors and juniors will be played over 36 holes. Seniors (over 55 years) will be played on Friday and Saturday. The Juniors contest will be staged Thursday and Friday.

There will be two categories in the juniors one under-18 and the other under-15. Veterans events will be played over 18 holes alongwith the Ladies event on Friday.

At stake are 46 attractive prizes besides the titles will be awarded to the winners in the categories of gross, net and best rounds.

A special prize will be up for grabs for the first gofler to perform hole-in-one.
