JUI-S demands tickets for Senate polls

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Jan 1: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Samiul Haq), a component of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), has demanded of the government to allocate two tickets to the party for contesting the Senate polls and accommodate its one of the two MPAs in the NWFP Cabinet.

A press release issued here on Tuesday said the provincial shoora of the JUI-S, which met here, lamented the indifferent attitude of major groups of the alliance towards smaller parties.

The meeting, presided over by provincial JUI-S chief Qazi Abdul Latif, asked the MMA Supreme Council to give proper representation to the party in the NWFP Cabinet and allot tickets to Maulana samiul Haq and Qazi Abdul Latif for contesting the elections.

The shoora also demanded to transfer powers of consultative committees to district organisations of the MMA and hand over developmental schemes, which were awarded to parliamentarians, to district bodies of the alliance.
