KARACHI: Tobacco firm stops TV, radio ads

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 1: The Pakistan Tobacco Company (PTC) will not use television and radio for cigarette advertisements, from January 1, onwards, a press release says.

It adds that the decision by the PTC is in line with the International Marketing Standards, a set of rules, formulated voluntarily, for the responsible promotion of tobacco, to ensure that no marketing activity should target the people under 18 years of age.

The press release says that the decision was voluntary as these advertisements are permissible under the law.

The PTC expects that in the larger interest of society, other cigarette companies would also withdraw from TV/radio.
