PML-N expels 2 MNAs

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 31: The Pakistan Muslim League-N on Tuesday expelled two of its members who cast their votes in favour of Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali in violation of the party discipline.

The decision to expel Dewan Jaffar Bukhari and Krishan Bheel was taken at a joint meeting of the central working committee and the parliament party held at the party office.

“We have in principle taken a decision to expel them from the party and will take a legal action against them,” PML-N chief organizer Ahsan Iqbal told Dawn after the meeting.

The party also decided to launch a membership campaign throughout the country to induct fresh blood into the party. “We feel it is high time to attract new crop of dedicated workers in the party ranks,” he added.

The party’s provincial wings would chalk out an strategy to carry out the membership campaign in an effective manner in their respective provinces.

A workers’ convention would be held in the federal capital on March 23, 2003.

The meeting also adopted a number of resolutions. The resolutions condemned alleged horse-trading and appointment of people involved in serious crimes and required by law at high offices.

“The meeting invites the nation to take notice of the unconstitutional and rigged referendum of April 30, nationwide fragmentation of political parties, use of NAB as a weapon against political opponents, formation of a king’s party through bribe as well as coercion and the worst kind of rigging before and after the general election as well as on the polling day — all committed under the supervision of Gen Pervez Musharraf,” said a resolution.

“The unconstitutional, illegal, immoral and harmful actions under the leadership of Gen Musharraf that are designed to perpetuate his personal rule are causing disgrace to the armed forces both at the national and international levels,” it said.
