GUJRAT, Dec 31: Sarai police have registered a case against 17 people, including nine nominated, on the charge of killing MPA Chaudhry Farooq and his five companions on Sunday near Dandi Dara.

The FIR, lodged on the complaint of Chaudhry Arshad, the brother of the slain MPA, has been sealed.

Sources in police said members of the Phana Group were involved in the killings.

They said former ZC member Chaudhry Younas alias Phana was murdered some two years ago. Phana’s family members believed that the slain MPA was involved in the murder.

They confirmed that the nominated accused in the FIR were brothers and close relatives of Younas alias Phana. The accused were also wanted by police in several other cases of heinous nature.

CM: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday visited the residence of the slain MPA in Sarai Alamgir to condole with the bereaved family.

Accompanied by some politicians of the PML-Q, Elahi offered Fateha. He assured Farooq’s family members that the murderers would be caught soon and punished according to law.

He directed Gujranwala range DIG Malik Iqbal and Gujrat DPO Raja Munawar to arrest the culprits at the earliest.

Reportedly, the workers were busy in factory’s tyre/tube manufacturing section when the incident took place. The explosion was so powerful that it blew up the roof of boiler’s room.

Six workers sustained injuries who were taken to the DHQ Hospital where Zulfiqar died while condition of two others was said to be critical.
