KARACHI: Tribunal hears MMA candidate’s poll plea


KARACHI, Dec 27: The Sindh Election Tribunal heard on Friday an election petition filed by Mohammed Ahmed Siddiqui of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, a candidate from PS-112, Karachi.

The tribunal, comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim of the Sindh High Court, settled 13 issues raised in the petition against Syed Shakir Ali of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, who has been declared elected by the Election Commission.

The main issue raised by the petitioner was about counting of the ballot papers at polling station No 31 where, according to him, only three votes were polled in favour of his oppo-nent, but the result showed 377 votes.

The court would continue hearing of the petition on Saturday.

On Friday, the petitioner recorded his statement. Counsel for the respondent Kazi Khalid, advocate, completed cross-examination of the petitioner. challenged: An advocate of the Sindh High Court filed a constitutional petition in the SHC on Friday challenging the appointment of Dr Ishratul Ibad as Sindh governor.

The petitioner, Sohail Hameed, prayed to the court to declare the notification on the appointment of Dr Ishratul Ibad illegal. He also prayed that Dr Ibad should be barred from taking oath as Sindh governor.— APP
