HYDERABAD: Canals closure to reduce supply to Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, Dec 26: The Water and Sanitation Agency announced here on Thursday that due to closure of canals by the Sindh irrigation department, the water supply to Hyderabad would be reduced by 50 per cent.
A spokesman for Wasa said canals would remain closed from Dec 26 to Jan 10.
POSITION HOLDERS: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, has announced names of position holders in semester examinations of 2000.
In MA, Islamic Culture, evening programme, Shazia, daughter of Din Mohammad Bhutto, secured first position, Waseemuddin, son of Abdul Aziz, secured second, and Naheed, daughter of Iqbal Shaikh, secured third position.
In postgraduate diploma in Local Government, Political Science, Riaz Ahmad, son of Mohammad Usman Memon, secured first position, Ghulam Ali, son of Sabhayo Khan Otho, secured second, and Amir Hamzo Brohi, son of Mohammad Abbas Brohi, secured third position.
LECTURE: Asim Kaghazi, the chairman of the Education Committee for Sindh and the Sindh Association of North America, delivered a lecture on “Higher Education in Europe” at the University of Sindh here the other day.
In his lecture, Kaghazi said there were many opportunities for higher education in other countries besides USA.
Kaghazi said there were some organizations and philanthropists who offered financial support to students for higher education in different countries.
SU MEETING: A meeting of the University of Sindh was held the other day to discuss arrangements for semester examinations, scheduled to be held from Dec 28, beginning of classes of the new session and attendance of students.
The meeting decided strict security arrangements would be ensured at examination centres.
It also decided classes of first and second semesters would begin from Jan 23.
