By Ashfaq Yusufzai

PESHAWAR, Dec 24: The two finalists, Rashid Malik and Aqeel Khan shared the Chief of Air Staff Khyber Cup Open tennis championship trophy as the final was cancelled due to torrential rains on Tuesday.

The cash prize money of Rs100,000 was distributed equally between Rashid and top seeded Aqeel.

Earlier on Monday, Shah Rukh Khan Niazi emerged as winner of the Under-18 event after beating Tanveer Ahmad 3-6, 6-7 and 6-4 in a thrilling contest.

Rashid defeated Asim Shafiq 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 in the men’s semifinal.

The pair of Rashid and Aqeel beat Aurangzeb and Shehzad Khan 6-4, 6-4 in the men’s doubles semifinal. They were scheduled to play Asim and Shehzad Samad in the final, who outplayed Inam Gul and Irfanullah 6-3, 6-4 in the other semifinal. The final was, however, cancelled because of rain.
