KARACHI: Arts Council election results

KARACHI, Dec 23: Known anchorperson Khushbakht Shujaat was declared vice president of the Arts Council on Monday following counting of the votes cast during polling on Sunday.

She bagged 632 votes out of the 1200-odd cast. Her opponent, Saifur Rehman Grami, got 578 votes. Khushbakht is the first woman vice president of the cultural body.

Yavar Mehdi was declared winner on the honorary secretary’s seats. He got 690 ballots.

A tough competition was seen for the treasurer’s seat. Rizwan Siddiqui — bagging 596 ballots — was declared winner on this seat. His opponent, Ibrahim Nafees, lost the election by only six votes.

The names of those declared members of the governing body were: Mohammed Ayub, Anwer Roomi, Dr Huma Mir, Dr Rehana Shah, Qasim Jalali, Shafi M. Shah, Arshad Mehmood, Sajjad Qaiser, Aneeq Ahmed, Shehnaz Siddiqui, Ghazal Siddique and Naqqash Kazmi.
