MIRPURKHAS, Dec 21: The EDO (education) has been charged with violating standing orders and depositing government funds in the United Bank Ltd instead of depositing the same with the National Bank of Pakistan.
Funds, worth Rs12 million, were released by the government of Sindh for purchase of textbooks for distribution among the students of primary schools.
The EDO (education), Prof Sadiq Bhatti, deposited the same in his personal account No 010-3333-1 at the Sir Syed Road Branch of the UBL with connivance of the branch manager.
When the district Nazim, Pir Shafqat Hussain Shah Jilani, had come to know about this irregularity he had directed the EDO (education) to transfer this amount in the NBP.
The EDO (education) issued a cheque amounting to Rs7.5 million, to the manager of the NBP, Municipal Branch, after opening an account in the same branch.
But the manager of the UBL, Sir Syed Road Branch, had reportedly stopped the transaction by raising six objections.
In the meantime, the DCO, Qabool Shaikh, has also taken notice of the matter. He directed the EDO to pay the total amount to the chairman of the Sindh Text Book Board, Jamshoro, against the supply of the textbooks.
