ISLAMABAD, Dec 21: District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Asad Raza awarded life imprisonment and a fine of Rs200,000 to a convict in a murder case here on Saturday. In case of default he would have to undergo an additional six months imprisonment.

The convict Mohammad Akram was charged with killing a person Tabarak Hussain on August 2, 2001 in Siali area falling in the jurisdiction of the Bara Kahu police station.

It may be recalled that the convict had murdered Tabarak Hussain on suspicion of having illicit relations with his daughter-in-law. A case was filed against him with Bara Kahu police station.

Judicial Magistrate Chaudhry Mumtaz Hussain on Saturday awarded four-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs16,750 to a convict in a murder case and released his accomplice for want of evidence.

The convict Munir Ahmed and his father Tanvir Ahmed were charged with attacking Mohammad Abbas in the jurisdiction of Sihala police station. A case was registered against them with Sihala police station.

After hearing the arguments of both sides, the judicial magistrate awarded four-year imprisonment to Munir Ahmed and acquitted his accomplice Tanvir Ahmed (father) for want of evidence.

Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate Rana Mohammad Khan awarded two-year imprisonment to a convict involved in trade of liquor here on Saturday.

The convict Nawaz Masih was charged with supplying liquor. A case was registered against him with Margalla police station.

In six other cases the convicts involved in small offences were released after imposing nominal fines. They included Zameer Hussain (illegal arms) Rs500, Nusrat Khan (Liquor) Rs300, Saleem Akhtar, Shoaib Abbassi and Sarafraz Hussain (accidents) Rs3500.

Dist courts to remain closed: The district courts will remain closed from December 23 to 31 as part of summer vacations, according to a circular released on Saturday by the office of the district and session judge Ch Asad Raza.
